Xanthoxylum, commonly known as Timur in Nepal, is a shrub that grows up to 3 meters in height. It thrives in the Himalayan region, specifically at altitudes between 1,100 and 2,500 meters. We source it from the mid-western and western Hilly regions of Nepal. The most valuable part of the plant is its fruit (berry), which is steam-distilled to extract the essential oil. Timur is highly valued in the fragrance and flavoring industries for its distinctive aroma and taste. Medicinally, it is renowned for its anti-infectious and sedative properties, making it effective in treating ailments such as arthritis, cholera, and toothaches. The harvesting season for Timur spans from August to November, when the berries are at their peak potency.
