Lindera neesiana Kurz, commonly known as Sil timur in Nepal, is a deciduous tree from the Lauraceae family, growing up to 5 meters in height. This aromatic plant produces edible fruits and is widely used in traditional herbal medicine. It is known for its effectiveness in treating diarrhea, tooth pain, headaches, and gastric disorders, and is also valued for its stimulant properties. The leaves are elliptical to lanceolate, with a shiny green petiole when young, turning brown as they mature. The green-yellow scented flowers bloom from March to April, while the fruits appear from May to August. Sil timur thrives in the foothills and mid-altitude regions of Nepal, specifically at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 2,700 meters, often found at the edges of cultivable lands. We source Sil timur from the Eastern Himalayan and Central regions. The harvesting season for Sil timur spans from July to September.
