Fresh turmeric root, the culinary herb derived from Curcuma longa, belongs to the Zingiberaceae family. This rhizomatous perennial herb grows to a height of 60–90 cm and produces pale yellow flowers on spikes, concealed by sheathing bracts. The rhizome itself has a distinctive bitter taste. Turmeric thrives widely across Southern Asia, including Nepal, and parts of Africa. In Nepal, it flourishes in tropical and subtropical regions, particularly in the southern lowlands. Renowned for its vibrant color and flavor, turmeric is a staple ingredient in Nepali cuisine and is also used as a natural fabric dye. Beyond its culinary uses, turmeric is highly regarded for its medicinal properties, including its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. The harvesting season for turmeric typically spans from April to May. We source it sustainably from the southern plains of Nepal, ensuring high-quality production for culinary, medicinal, and industrial applications.
