Anthopogon, locally known as Sunpati, is an evergreen shrub from the Ericaceae family, typically growing to a height of 0.6 to 1 meter. Thriving at high altitudes of 3000 to 4800 meters in Nepal, we source it from regions in the eastern and central himalayan parts of the country. The essential oil of Anthopogon is extracted through steam distillation of the aerial parts, including the rhododendron flowers. The plant’s leaves and flowers are commonly used in herbal teas that aid digestion, stimulate appetite, and relieve liver disorders. In the cosmetics industry, Anthopogon oil is valued for its skin and hair benefits, such as cleansing, purifying, and soothing. It is also widely used in aromatherapy to treat colds, coughs, and chronic bronchitis. With its fruity, fresh, and sweet balsamic aroma, the oil finds its way into perfumes, soaps, shampoos, and other skincare products. The harvesting season spans from August to November.
