Camphor Basil (Ocimum kilimandscharicum), a member of the Lamiaceae family, is a highly aromatic herb cultivated in Nepal’s subtropical and temperate regions, particularly at altitudes ranging from 1,000 to 2,200 meters. We source this fragrant plant from the eastern mid-hills, specifically regions like Sunsari, known for their favorable climatic conditions for growing Camphor Basil. This herb typically grows up to 1 meter tall and has green leaves that release a distinct camphor-like fragrance, making it highly sought after for its essential oil. The harvesting season from August to September is when the oil content reaches its peak, ensuring maxi-mum therapeutic benefits. Camphor Basil is revered for its various medicinal properties and plays an import- ant role in both traditional Nepali remedies and contemporary wellness practices, such as in aromatherapy for stress relief and respiratory support.
