Cinnamomum tamala, commonly known as cinnamon or Tejpat in Nepal, is a medium-sized evergreen tree from the Lauraceae family that can grow up to 15 meters in height. Native to the mid-hills of Nepal, this tree thrives at altitudes ranging from 400 to 2,000 meters and has an impressive lifespan of 70–80 years. We source Cinnamomum tamala from regions in the southern lowlands and mid-hills. The leaves and bark of this tree are its most valuable parts, with essential oil extracted from the leaves through steam distillation. Traditionally, it has been used to alleviate digestive issues like diarrhea, flatulence, and nausea, and as a natural remedy for toothaches. Beyond its medicinal uses, the essential oil is a sought-after ingredient in food, beverages, and cosmetics for its distinct aroma and therapeutic properties. The harvesting season spans from October to December, ensuring a steady and sustainable supply of this culturally and economically significant plant.
