Cinnamon (Cinnamomum tamala), also known as Tejpat by locals, is a medium-sized plant that grows to a height of 5-10 meters and is an evergreen tree species belonging to the Lauraceae family.
Cinnamon is native to Nepal, India, China, Bhutan, and other Asian countries, and is abundantly found in the mid-hills. The leaf and bark of the Cinnamomum plant are both beneficial. Steam distillation is used to extract the essential oil from the leaves. It’s anti-diabetic, antifungal, and antioxidant, and it’s also good for diarrhea, flatulence, and nausea.
Its harvesting season is from August to November.
